Advisory

Lock your car doors at night and remove your valuables.

Sheriff Gary Gulledge is reminding everyone to make sure that your car doors are locked at night. Also, remove your valuables if possible.

Reports of entering auto may continue to increase as we go throughout the Spring and Summer months. Most of the entering autos that are reported to us from neighborhoods involve UN-LOCKED vehicles.

“Car-hopping” is the term that has been used to describe the activity of roaming a subdivision or neighborhood while pulling door handles looking for un-locked vehicles. Once an easy target is located, the suspect(s) will look through the vehicle for items of value that are hidden inside. This activity usually occurs at night while the owners are asleep inside. The reason that they look for unlocked vehicles is so they do not create a disturbance and risk getting caught breaking windows or door locks.

Be vigilant in your efforts to deter and prevent crime. Report any suspicious activity immediately to the Paulding County Sheriff’s Office at 770-445-2117 or 9-1-1 for emergencies.
