Warning from Sheriff Gulledge - Suspicious person claiming to be a door-to-door salesman.
Sheriff Gary Gulledge is asking for the public's help to identify a suspicious person and to warn of his aggressive behavior. The suspicious person was last reported Friday afternoon, July 22, after knocking on someone's door and then becoming verbally aggressive with the homeowner.
The homeowner explains the encounter below:
Late Friday afternoon, July 22, 2011, Someone started knocking at our door. I was upstairs so my wife did not go to the door. After five or ten minutes of his pounding on the door I thought I should open it, as we had just had a death in the family and I thought it might be connected to that.
At my door was a heavyset man who appeared to be of Middle Eastern origin. He had my name, and said that I had signed up for some senior benefit. I informed him I had not. You see when you reach 65; everyone wants to sell you something. I told him that I did not like my mailbox being filled up with junk email. At this point he became belligerent and referred to me using the a-word. I told him to leave and I closed the door. He then pounded on the door again. I opened and he then yelled that he was going to kick my a-word. It was hard to believe this was happening, but I immediately backed up about 10 feet into my living room, to give myself some room. He walk down to my front yard and continued to yell at me to come outside so he could kick my a-word. I told him again to leave that I was calling the police. I locked the door and went upstairs and called 911, and told them that I needed someone to get this salesman to leave. As I talked to the dispatcher, His car left my driveway and the operator asked if I wanted to cancel the call which I did, because I no longer considered him an immediate threat.
I thought your department might want to get the word out to the people of Paulding, not to open their door for this man. He is heavy set, about 6 feet, more than likely of middle-eastern origin. He has a mustache with a little grey as does his dark hair. His English is fair, but there is an accent. Since he primarily deals with senior citizens I could see potential problems.
