October is Crime Prevention Month. Preventing crime is everyone's responsibility. It's truly a partnership between law enforcement and the people we serve. Join us at the following safety events:

Walk Like MADD
Saturday, October 12

Join Sheriff Bill Gore and the Sheriff's Department family in honoring the memory of Deputy Ken Collier. Deputy Collier was killed in the line of duty in 2010 while trying to stop a drunk driver going the wrong way on Highway 52 in Santee.

The Bicycle Rodeo features a bicycle and helmet safety inspection. A quick lesson on the rules of the road is followed by a ride on a miniature "chalk street" course where children are shown where and how to apply the rules. Don't forget to bring your bicycle and helmet.

*Be a Friend, Not a Bully - October is Bullying Prevention Awareness Month. A Crime Prevention Specialist or School Resource Deputy can come to your school to give a presentation.

*Star Smart - October 20-26 is National Teen Driver Safety Week.
We can all help improve teen driver safety. Take part in the Sheriff's Start Smart program. This FREE class is for new drivers and their parents/guardians so they clearly understand their responsibilities when a teen starts to drive.
