Be advised of a increased law enforcement activity in Julian specifically Search and Rescue (SAR) volunteers around Volcan Mountain. A search is underway for a missing plane.
A small private plane en route from Palm Springs to San Diego lost contact over the Julian area around 6:15 p.m. It is described as a single-engine Piper Mooney.
The Sheriff’s Search and Rescue (SAR) Team has been activated to commence a search in the Julian area and Volcan Mountain. Deputies are also on scene as well as Civil Air Patrol.
Due to inclement weather, Sheriff’s ASTREA had to turn back from their attempted search efforts. As soon as the weather permits, ASTREA will return to aid in the search efforts. The command post is at the Julian Sheriff’s Substation, 2907 Washington Street, Julian.
