Alert shop owners work with police to capture theft suspects
On Wednesday, October 9th, Green Bay Police arrested a man and a woman for committing multiple thefts in the Broadway business district. Recently the Broadway businesses set up a communication network and made arrangements to notify each other and police if they observed suspicious activity. This communication network proved to be very successful.
At about 12:20PM Wednesday, Broadway shop owners alerted Green Bay Police about two suspicious people who were believed to be involved in thefts from area stores. Community Policing officers who had been working with the businesses owners were able to quickly track down the subjects who had just committed multiple thefts. Responding officers received several updates which helped them locate the subjects. With the assistance of patrol officers, the two were arrested after a short foot chase.
Police learned that the subjects carried a change of clothes with them and then quickly changed clothes to avoid detection by responding officers.
Police recovered various items including jewelry, purses and clothing. These items were returned to the stores. The subjects were charged with multiple counts of retail theft and jailed.
Arrested:
Steven A Zellmer Age 33
Anne D Verdiguel Age 47
The two recently moved to the Green Bay area and have not established a local address.
