Eleven year old’s quick thinking helps rescue senior from dog attack

On Saturday, September 20, 2014, 11 year old Jonathan Garcia was in his home when he heard a female screaming continuously for help and a dog barking.  Jonathan dialed 9-1-1 and reached the Fairfield Police Communications Center.  Jonathan spoke to Dispatch Supervisor Wendy Reynoso and told her what he was hearing.  Jonathan remained calm as he provided his address and where he thought the screams were coming from to dispatch.  Police and Fire personnel were immediately dispatched and able to quickly locate the victim who was suffering from a severe bite wound to her arm.  Officers discovered a dog had broken through a fence and attacked the victim in her yard.

On Friday, October 16, 2014 members of the Fairfield Police Department visited Jonathan and his 6th grade class at B. Gale Wilson Elementary School.  Sergeant Jacobsen thanked Jonathan for his quick action and willingness to get involved.  Sgt. Jacobson spent time speaking to the class about how to properly use the 9-1-1 system and what to do in an emergency.  Jonathan’s actions helped save the victim from further harm and are to be commended.

The Fairfield Police Department relies on the community to be our eyes and ears.  Jonathan’s story is a fantastic example of the positive impact getting involved can have on the lives of the people who live and work in our community.  If there’s an emergency or you see a crime in progress, dial 9-1-1 or 707-428-7373 from your cellular phone.  If you have information that may help us solve a crime or take a criminal off the streets, you have several different ways to contact us.  You can use our MyPD App from your Smartphone, Text TIP FAIRFIELDPD followed by your message, to 888777, or call our 24-hour Tip Line at (707) 428-7345.  Whichever option you choose, tipsters can remain anonymous.
