Location: Westbound Sunrise Service Road, between exits 50 and 49, Bohemia

Date/Time: Sunday, August 7, 2016 at approximately 2:10 p.m.

Suffolk County Police Fifth Squad detectives are investigating an incident that seriously injured an Islip man this afternoon.

Christopher Ryan was a passenger in a 2009 Nissan Altima that was traveling westbound on Sunrise Highway, between exits 50 and 49, in Bohemia at approximately 2:10 p.m. when for unknown reasons he jumped out of the moving vehicle. Ryan’s girlfriend, Alexandria Marston, 26, of Islip, was driving the Nissan and stopped the vehicle a short distance away.  Another vehicle that was traveling behind the Nissan witnessed the incident and was able to stop and shielded Ryan from further injuries.

Ryan, 34, of Islip was transported by ground to Stony Brook University Hospital by Lakeland Fire Department where he was treated for serious, non-life-threatening injuries.

Marston and the man’s 9-year-old son who was a passenger in the Nissan were not injured.

The investigation is continuing.
