Female body located this evening along the shore of the Alameda Creek in Fremont

This evening at 5:34 p.m., a male called the Fremont Police Dispatch center and reported he found what appeared to be a female body near the water along the Alameda Creek close to Coyote Hills in the Ardenwood area of Fremont.  The reporting party was walking with his dogs along the trail when he noticed the body.  Due to the remote location and unknown jurisdiction, police officers and fire fighters from both Fremont and Union City responded.  Fremont officers located the female body on the north side of the Alameda Creek, between the levee trail and the water.  Upon initial visual inspection it appears the body has been in the water and elements for some time.

The Alameda County Sheriff’s Office was immediately notified, responded to the scene and has taken over as the primary investigating agency. Alameda County investigators and members of the Coroner’s Office are handling the case.

As our community knows, a young female went missing on January 21, 2017, after being involved in a collision in the Niles Canyon.  While we are not able to confirm the identity of the female found this evening, the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office has been in contact with the family to notify them of the possible finding. We ask that you please continue to keep Jayda Jenkins and her family in your thoughts.

As this investigation moves forward, no further information will be available until the Alameda County Sheriff and Coroner have an opportunity to conduct their investigation into the cause of death as well as positively identify the female.

We’d like to thank all of the public safety agencies who responded to assist with this investigation tonight.
