Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Praised By Pasadena Police in the Arrest of Eight Alleged Duarte Gang Members

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Praised By Pasadena Police in the Arrest of Eight Alleged Duarte Gang Members in Connection with 2016-17 Pasadena Murders

Pasadena Police announced today the arrest of eight alleged members of the DuRoc Crips gang suspected of fatally shooting three men and wounding two women in what is being labeled as a “feud” between rival gangs.  The Department successfully worked with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and other law enforcement agencies during the six-month investigation.  During today’s press conference, Pasadena Police Department was very complementary of the critical role the Sheriff’s Department and the Duarte Special Assignment Team played in the investigation.

Pasadena PD believes the clash between the Pasadena Denver Lanes Bloods and the DuRoc Crips gang in Duarte led to a series of shootings between December 2016 and January this year in Pasadena that left three men dead and several people injured. Six of the suspects have already been charged. Two remain in custody in other states on unrelated charges but will be extradited to California in the coming weeks.

One of the suspects, Derion Davon Lee is the suspected shooter of Brandon Douglas on  Dec. 22, 2016 that police believe was the first shooting associated with the gang war between the two areas.  Lee is also suspected in the January 6th murders of Antoine Sutphen and Ormoni Duncan as well as the attempted murder of two others; all four persons were part a group of mourners that had gathered at a vigil in Pasadena for Douglas. The other suspects in the double slayings and attempted murders are Isaiah Jack Daniels, Pernell Barnes, Charod Robinson and Andrew Vasquez.  The remaining suspects, Anthony Deon Edwards and Marquise Duran Turner are accused of trying to kill a young female during a January 16th incident on Garfield Avenue. An eighth suspect, John Wesley Robinson, is accused of being an accessory after the fact.

Duarte Public Safety and LA County Sheriff’s officials are hoping that these significant arrests of key members of the long-standing DuRoc Crips gang will help keep peace in the Duarte, Monrovia and adjoining County areas that have witnessed five murders and nine non-fatal shootings since November of 2016 in 18 separate gun violence incidents. The investigations into these cases still continue; although the two deaths that occurred in Duarte have been determined to not be gang related.   The City and LASD continue to give both cases top priority as detectives actively investigate all leads and implement extra patrols.  The City also continues to work closely with Los Angeles County Supervisor Kathryn Barger, and the Pasadena and Monrovia Police Departments.  Specifically, we have resumed joint patrols and created a special LA County Sheriff’s Summer Enforcement Team utilizing the skills of the Sheriff’s OSS Bureau.
