ARREST / UPDATE #2 -- Stabbing at Lola’s Market (SRPD Case # 17-16826)

UPDATE #2 TO MEDIA RELEASE:

Throughout the day, detectives from the Violent Crimes Team continued to develop investigative leads. The investigative leads were developed from civilian personnel within the police department and from the community’s response to our earlier media release requesting assistance.

Based on the investigation, detectives were able to identify the suspect responsible for this unprovoked and brutal stabbing. The suspect was identified as Eulalio Miniz Orozco. Orozco also went by numerous aliases, including Ricardo Romero Velazquez. Orozco is 39-years-old and has been residing in Santa Rosa for the last two months. See attached photograph.

At approximately 7:00 p.m., Orozco was contacted and detained by Santa Rosa Police Officers without incident in the area of Dutton Avenue and Sebastopol Road. Orozco was transported to the Santa Rosa Police Department where the investigation is on-going.

At approximately 7:45 p.m., detectives served a search warrant at a residence in the 400 block of Goodman Ave. This was the residence where detectives believed Orozco was staying.

The motive for the attack is still unknown and under investigation.

The victim’s condition has been recently upgraded to stable. Due to the violent nature of the crime and the on-going investigation, the victim’s name will not be released.

Orozco was later arrested and booked into the Sonoma County Main Adult Detention Facility on the charge: PC 664/187(a) – Attempted Murder.

UPDATE #1 TO MEDIA RELEASE:

During the last several days, detectives from the Violent Crimes Investigations (VCI) Team have continued to develop investigative leads, examine evidence, and conduct additional interviews into this unprovoked attack and stabbing.

Based on the on-going investigation, detectives have learned the following and need the community’s assistance with identifying the suspect.

The suspect is a Hispanic male adult between the approximate ages of 30-40. He is approximately 5’6” tall and weighs between 160-180 lbs. He has black short-cut hair and possibly a mustache. He wore a dark puffy jacket with a hood having white on the inside of the hood. He also wore long black shoes with a shiny or different colored tip. Witnesses describe him as having a large tattoo on one of his forearms of the grim reaper, commonly referred to as La Santa Muerte. Below are tattoos that may be similar to the one the suspect had on his forearm but are not pictures of the actual suspect’s tattoo. A reward of up to $2,500 is being offered by the Sonoma County Alliance “Take Back Our Community Program.” The reward is for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspect involved in the stabbing.

ORIGINAL MEDIA RELEASE December 21st, 2017:

On December 21, 2017, at approximately 6:26 p.m., Santa Rosa Police Officers responded to Lola’s Market located in the 400 block of Dutton Avenue regarding a victim of a stabbing.

Officers arrived on scene and located a 61-year-old, male victim who had suffered a stab wound to the neck.

The initial investigation revealed that both the victim and the suspect had been sitting at different tables in the restaurant. They had not spoken to each other. At one point, the suspect stood up and walked toward the victim. The suspect had an unknown stabbing instrument in his hand and stabbed the victim once in the neck. The suspect then fled the area on foot.

Officers checked the area for the suspect but were unable to locate him. The suspect was described as a Hispanic male in his thirties with black hair and facial hair. He was of medium build and was last seen wearing a large black jacket and blue jeans. Surveillance video was able to capture an image of the suspect. A still frame of the suspect captured from the surveillance video is attached.

The victim was transported to a local hospital with a life-threatening injury. Due to the violent nature of the crime and the on-going investigation, the victim’s name will not be released at this time.

Detectives from the Violent Crimes Team were called to assist and take over the investigation. The incident does not appear to be gang related, and the motive for the crime is still under investigation.
