Sheriff's Air Rescue performs hoist rescue of hiker in Ice House Canyon in Mount Baldy

LOCATION: Ice House Canyon, Mt. Baldy, San Bernardino
VICTIM: Frank Sardegna, 25-year-old, Ontario
SUMMARY: On Sunday, December 31, 2017, at about 2:30 pm, Sheriff's Air Rescue 306 was requested by County Fire Personnel to assist with a hiker who fell from the Ice House Canyon trail. Sheriff's 40K7 piloted by Ryan Peppler and tactical flight officer Larry Scott responded to locate the injured hiker.
40K7 located the hiker and directed AR306 to the injured hiker. AR306, piloted by M. Gilley positioned the aircraft over the hiker. Crew Chief Miller hoisted Dr. Salcedo, Nurse Lard, and a stokes litter to the patient. Salcedo assessed the patient and determined he did not have obvious injuries and had not lost consciousness. The hiker, Sardegna, was placed into the stokes litter and hoisted about 73 feet to AR306. Sardegna was transported by AR306 to the landing zone at Cow Canyon where he was assessed by AMR personnel.
