*Update* #LASD Death Investigation, 40000 block of 176th Street East, Lake Los Angeles

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Homicide Detectives are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of a male adult in the 40000 block of 176th Street East, Lake Los Angeles. The incident occurred on Saturday, February 3, 2018, at approximately 4:30 p.m.

Detectives have learned that Lancaster Station deputies assigned to the unincorporated area of Los Angeles County were patrolling the Lake Los Angeles area where, in the 40000 block of 176th Street East, they were looking for a known felony criminal threats suspect. The suspect was named in a recent felony criminal threats incident and Lancaster station detectives had created a ‘Be On the Lookout’ (B.O.L.O.) informational briefing for the suspect as an officer safety bulletin.

Deputies located the suspect at his residence in the backyard.  They approached the suspect who initially complied with their orders to place his hands behind his back.  The suspect suddenly turned and punched one of the two deputies, who fell back onto the ground.  The suspect then jumped onto the deputy, straddling his chest as he continued his attack on the deputy.  The deputy’s partner employed a Taser, striking the suspect.  The Taser had no effect.  The suspect then turned and attacked the second deputy, tackling him to the ground. A neighbor came to the aid of the deputies and together, they were able to handcuff the suspect who continued to fight despite being restrained by handcuffs.

Deputies noticed that as the suspect began to calm down, his breathing became labored and he became unresponsive.  Deputies immediately began administering CPR until they were relieved by fire department personnel.  Fire department personnel continued advanced lifesaving efforts but were unsuccessful.  The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.  Two deputies were transported to a nearby hospital where they were treated for their injuries and released.

The investigation is ongoing and there is no further information.
