Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau detectives have identified the victim and arrested the suspect in the shooting death of a female adult that occurred on the 15000 block of Newmont Avenue, in the unincorporated area of Los Angeles, Lake Los Angeles. The incident occurred on Sunday, February 25, 2018 at approximately 3:11 p.m.
The victim has been identified as Sandy Mayberry, a 29 year-old Hispanic female.
The victim’s husband, Michael Mayberry, a 36 year-old Black male, was arrested for her murder. He was booked at Lancaster Sheriff’s station on one count of murder. He is being held in lieu of $2,000,000.00 bail. He is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday, February 27, 2018.

Los Angeles County Sheriff's Homicide Bureau detectives are continuing their investigating into the circumstances surrounding the shooting death of a female Hispanic adult that occurred on the 15000 block of Newmont Avenue, in the unincorporated area of Los Angeles, Lake Los Angeles. The incident occurred on Sunday, February 25, 2018 at approximately at 3:11 P.M.
Detectives have learned that Lancaster Sheriff Station deputies responded to the location regarding a call of a gunshot victim. Upon arriving, deputies discovered the victim, a Hispanic woman in her 20's, on the ground in front of a residence. She suffered at least one gunshot wound and was unresponsive. Attempts to save her life were unsuccessful and she was pronounced dead by responding fire department personnel.
Although the victim has not been positively identified, it appears she resided at the location at which the shooting occurred.
A male adult, believed to be the victim's husband, was transported to Lancaster Station for further questioning. The names of the victim and her husband are not being released pending notification of next of kin.
There are no outstanding suspects.
The weapon believed to be used in the murder was recovered at the scene.
The investigation is ongoing and there is no further information available at this time.
