A Lakewood Sheriff Station deputy observed a car driving erratically southbound on Lakewood Blvd. towards the 91 freeway, Monday, August 27, 2018 at approximately 10:20PM. The deputy conducted a traffic stop of the vehicle and the driver quickly exited the vehicle holding a 9 month old baby boy. The deputy quickly assessed the baby and determined he was unresponsive and not breathing. The deputy broadcast emergent radio traffic and another deputy arrived on scene to assist.
One of the deputies began administering CPR as a second deputy transported the infant by radio car to Long Beach Memorial Hospital. Through a calm, quick, and coordinated effort, several other deputies assisted in safely escorting the baby to the hospital. During the transportation, the deputy was able to resuscitate the infant prior to arriving at the hospital. The infant was listed in stable condition and there was no evidence of foul play.
