Body Found in Backyard Identified as Missing Modesto Man

Modesto CA – Stanislaus County Coroner’s officials have identified Jacob Sutton-Bubeck (26, Modesto) as the man found buried in the backyard of a home on the 100 block of Santa Rita in Modesto over the weekend. Sutton-Bubeck, who is also known as Cheddar, had been reported missing by his brother on February 10, 2018.

Detectives were following up on tips that had been generated by media coverage, which helped to identify Sutton-Bubeck. Coroner’s officials were able to compare dental x-rays from the missing man to positively identify him. According to Detective Cory Brown, Sutton-Bubeck’s brother had last seen him on January 25, 2018.

“I would like to talk to anyone who may have seen Jacob or spoken to him after January 25th,” said Brown. “Due to the different variables that affect decomposition, it is impossible to identify a specific date that Jacob was murdered or when he was buried. That is why it is important to talk to people who may have seen him after that date to narrow down a specific time line.” Brown would also like to speak with anyone who may have lived at the home over the past year.

Detectives have concluded that this is a homicide, however, they are not releasing the manner of death because that is something that would be known only by someone who has intimate knowledge of this crime and how it was committed.

“We have received numerous tips about this case and we have recovered evidence from multiple locations,” said Brown. “We will continue to follow up on tips as they come in as well as follow up on leads that we have already received.”

Anyone with information regarding this case is encouraged to call Detective Cory Brown at (209) 567-4485.
