LOCATION: 58000 Bonanza Drive, Yucca Valley
SUSPECT: Rafael Anthony Zamora, a 42-year-old resident of Yucca Valley
VICTIM: San Bernardino County Deputy Sheriff assigned to the Morongo Basin Station
SUMMARY: On Wednesday, January 9, 2019, at approximately 10:23 p.m., deputies from the Morongo Basin Sheriff’s station were dispatched to a suicidal subject, in the 58000 block of Bonanza Drive. Rafael Zamora was at his residence, with his girlfriend and her two children. His girlfriend and the children hid from Zamora, in a bathroom. A deputy entered the residence to get Zamora’s wife and the children out safely. Zamora armed himself with a handgun and concealed himself in the backyard. Zamora fired six rounds, at the deputy. Additional deputies arrived and made announcements for the suspect to surrender. After approximately 10 minutes, Zamora surrendered without further incident.
Zamora was arrested for PC 664/187 Attempted Murder of a Deputy Sheriff.
