A parolee, and registered sex offender, was arrested for attempting to enter a home where a 12 yr old was home alone

INCIDENT: Attempted Burglary
LOCATION: 75900 block of Amboy Road, Twentynine Palms
SUSPECT: Steven Thomas McLaughlin, 31-year old resident of Twentynine Palms
VICTIM: 12-year-old female, resident of Twentynine Palms
SUMMARY:
On Sunday, March 31, 2019, at approximately 4:26 p.m., deputies from the Morongo Basin Station, responded to a welfare check of a 12-year-old girl, who was alone at her residence and observed an unknown Hispanic male adult attempting to enter the residence. Upon deputies’ arrival, the Hispanic male was gone.
Deputies located Steven McLaughlin approximately one mile east of the victim’s residence on Amboy Road. McLaughlin was found to be on parole for kidnapping and was a registered sex offender. He was confirmed to be the subject attempting to enter the residence.
McLaughlin was arrested and booked at the Morongo Basin Jail, for attempted burglary, parole violation and violation as a sex offender. McLaughlin was released from jail on March 28, 2019, for a violation of PC 3056, parole violation and warrants.
