Deputies arrest Steven Basulto of Hesperia after responding to the aquatic center

SUSPECT: Steven Basulto, age 28 a resident of Hesperia
SUMMARY: On Tuesday, July 2nd, at approximately 2:11 pm Deputy Tyler Loup of the Apple Valley Police Department was flagged down by citizens at the Apple Valley Aquatic Center. Deputy Loup was advised that a white male subject was in the pool area allegedly attempting to touch children inappropriately. Loup spoke with several adult patrons of the Aquatic Center, who pointed out the subject, later identified as Steven Basulto, as the person attempting to touch the children.
As the deputy attempted to speak to Basulto, he acted began acting erratically and refused to answer any questions. As the deputy attempted to detain Basulto and place him in handcuffs. Basulto became physically combative and during the struggle to handcuff Basulto, he bit the deputy's hand, causing injury to his finger. Additional deputies responded and were able to safely detain Basulto without further incident. Deputy Loup was transported to the hospital to be treated for his injury.
The investigation is ongoing, Basulto was booked at the High Desert Detention Center for assault and resisting an executive officer. Anyone with information regarding this incident are encouraged to contact Deputy Tyler McGee at (760)240-7400.
