Duarte Crime Blotter for the week of July 713, 2019

The following is a synopsis of crimes reported for the week of July 7 through July 13, 2019:        
 
July 07, 2019

  • At approximately 1:40 a.m., Deputies responded to the “Roadhouse Tavern,” located at 1846 Huntington Drive, regarding a stabbing. Los Angeles County Fire Department was on scene treating an adult male in the parking lot for a stab wound. Deputies were advised that several men started arguing inside the tavern, which carried outside to the parking lot, and a fight ensued. Sometime during the fight, the victim was stabbed. The alleged suspect fled in a dark colored sedan driven by an unknown female. The victim was transported and treated at a local hospital with a non-life threatening injury. The investigation is on-going.
 
  • A Petty Theft was reported at 1600 Mountain Avenue (Walmart). Between 5:25 p.m. and 5:35 p.m., an unsecured $600 bicycle was stolen while the victim was shopping.        
 
July 08, 2019
  • A Grand Theft Auto was reported in the 1400 block of Buena Vista Street. Sometime between 5:50 p.m. and 11 p.m., person’s unknown stole a 2006 Chevy Silverado from the parking lot. The vehicle was recovered on 07-12-19 by LAPD / Hollenbeck division. No suspects are in custody.           
 
July 09, 2019
  • A Residential Burglary was reported in the 2500 block of Starcrest Drive. Sometime between 7:20 a.m. and 5:20 p.m., person’s unknown shattered the rear slider and ransacked the home. Approximately $700 in cash was taken. The investigation is on-going.
 
  • At approximately 12:42 p.m., deputies responded to a residential burglary alarm in the 2500 block of Westvale Court. While checking the exterior of the home, they found the rear slider had been shattered. Upon entering the home to clear the location of any possible suspects, the alarm sounded. No suspects were located and the home appeared to be intact. The residents arrived and confirmed nothing had appeared to be disturbed or missing. It is possible the suspects made entry and once the alarm sounded, left the location.
 
July 10, 2019
  • A Grand Theft was reported at 2315 Huntington Drive (CVS). An adult male and female were observed walking through the beauty supply section. As they exited the store without purchasing anything, the manager noticed the bag they entered the store with appeared to be fuller than when they entered. After checking the beauty supply section, the manager noticed numerous items missing from displays that were just restocked earlier in the morning.
After checking the day’s purchases, he noticed the missing items had not been purchased and believed the two adults may have stolen the items. The loss was estimated at approximately $1,500. The investigation is on-going.

July 13, 2019
  • An Assault with a Deadly Weapon was reported in the parking lot of 1323 Huntington Drive. A 58 year old male was parking his vehicle in a handicapped stall when an adult male approached the open driver’s side window, and without provocation punched the victim in the face several times. As the suspect was walking away, a concerned citizen approached the suspect and advised him he shouldn’t be hitting elderly men. The suspect suddenly retrieved a semi-auto handgun from his waistband and pointed it at the victim and the concerned citizen. Both men fearing for their safety walked away.
Responding deputies reviewed video footage and recognized the suspect from previous contacts. While approaching the suspect’s residence, they observed him walking down the street and detained him without incident. The victim and a witness positively identified the suspect and he was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon without incident.  Detectives obtained a search warrant for the suspect’s home.  The firearm was not located, however, ammunition was located in the suspect’s bedroom.  Due to the suspect being a convicted felon, he was additionally charged with being a felon in possession of ammunition.
