Duarte Crime Blotter for the week of August 18 through August 24, 2019

The following is a synopsis of crimes reported for the week of August 18-24, 2019:
 
August 18, 2019

  • Disturbance Call: At approximately 6:31 p.m., deputies responded to responded to a disturbance in the 1900 block of Huntington Drive.  Upon arrival, deputies contacted an adult male who was naked and covered in blood.  Paramedics responded and treated the male for numerous lacerations caused by broken glass. After further investigation, it was determined the male was under the influence of a controlled substance and had vandalized his own home, throwing numerous household appliances and personal property out his windows. The male was transported to a local hospital for treatment and mental observation. 
 
  • Petty Theft: A petty theft was reported in the 1600 block of Calle Coronado. Sometime between 5 p.m. and 10 p.m., persons unknown stole a fire extinguisher that was mounted to an exterior wall. The loss was estimated at $100.

August 20, 2019
  • Petty Theft: Deputies responded to the 1600 block of Calle Coronado, regarding a petty theft call. Sometime between 5 p.m. and 10 p.m., persons unknown stole a fire extinguisher that was affixed to a wall. The loss was estimated at approximately $100.
 
  • Narcotics Arrest: At approximately 4:10 p.m., deputies contacted a driver at Huntington Drive and the 210 Freeway, regarding expired registration. During the investigation, the adult male driver was found to be driving without a license and was detained. During the investigation, the driver was also found to be in possession of narcotic paraphernalia. The driver asked deputies to allow his adult male passenger to take possession of his vehicle instead of towing it, however, after further investigation, it was determined the passengers license was expired and he too was found to be in possession of narcotic paraphernalia. The driver was arrested for driving without a license and possession of narcotic paraphernalia, and the passenger was arrested for possession of narcotic paraphernalia. Both individuals reside in Long Beach.  
 
  • Narcotics Arrest: At approximately 7:20 p.m., deputies responded to the 2000 block of Broadland Avenue regarding a call of a suspicious person in a vehicle. Upon arrival, deputies detained an adult male at the location. After further investigation, the male was found to have an outstanding warrant and was arrested. Incident to the arrest, the male was also found to be in possession of methamphetamine and was additionally charged. The male resides in Pasadena.

August 22, 2019
  • Residential Burglary: Deputies responded to a residential burglary call in the 1200 block of Galen Street. Sometime between 8:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., persons unknown shattered the rear glass door with a brick and ransacked the house. At the time of the report, it was not yet determined if anything was stolen. 
 
  • Narcotics Arrest: At 11:39, deputies responded to the 800 block of Miltonwood Avenue, regarding a trespassing in progress call. The informant saw someone with a flashlight inside a vacant house that was currently under construction. Deputies detained an adult female pending a trespassing investigation. During the investigation, the female was found to be in possession of methamphetamine and narcotic paraphernalia. The female was arrested for trespassing and possession of methamphetamine and narcotic paraphernalia.   
 
  • Grand Theft: A grand theft was reported in the 1000 block of Bradbourne Avenue. $4,500 in jewelry and $300 in silver antique coins were stolen from the victim’s bedroom. There were no signs of forced entry into the house. The victim believes a worker may have taken the items. The investigation is ongoing.     
      
August 23, 2019
  • Commercial Burglary: Deputies responded to 1323 Huntington Drive (La Michoacana) regarding a commercial burglary call. At approximately 9:40 a.m., the owner arrived and found the front glass door shattered. After checking his business, the owner found his safe missing from the office.  Video footage showed two males wearing hooded sweatshirts and dark pants, crouching down near the front glass door at approximately 1:45 a.m. One of the suspects breaks the glass door with an unknown prying tool and both enter the business. Both males go directly to the office and removing the safe. The suspects are then observed walking westbound Huntington drive with the safe. The investigation is ongoing.  
 
  • Assault with a Deadly Weapon: At approximately 4:30 a.m., a resident in the 1600 block of Delford Avenue heard what appeared to be a gunshot outside the home. When the resident looked outside, he didn’t see anything. During the investigation, video footage was located. After checking surveillance video footage, four males were observed outside the home, crouching behind a vehicle parked in front of a driveway. As a mini-van approached, one of the males crouching behind the vehicle appeared to have fired at the passing vehicle. All four males then entered the vehicle and fled. A shell casing was recovered and the investigation is ongoing.
