IMPD Detectives Seek Community’s Help in Identifying Person of Interest in Downtown’s Shooting

****UPDATE****

INDIANAPOLIS –  On Saturday, September 21, 2019, at approximately 11:00 p.m., officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department were patrolling the area of W. Maryland and N. Illinois Street when they heard shots being fired just north of the location. When officers arrived, they located multiple people shot in the area. IEMS responded and transported the victims to several area hospitals.

Aggravated Assault Detectives responded and immediately began their investigation. Detectives canvassed the area seeking additional information.  Preliminarily it is believed that a juvenile began shooting just north of the intersection of West Maryland and N. Illinois Street and fled the scene. The detectives confirmed that there were six victims three of which were juveniles. This shooting is likely the result of disturbance/ fight between two juvenile groups and not a randomly targeted shooting.
Detectives are asking for the Community’s help in identifying the male in the attached photo.  The male has been listed as a person of interest and is described as wearing dark color sweatshirt with light stripes on sleeve and dark jeans.

“The disregard for human life and inability to emotionally handle conflict last night is past feeling. Constant monitoring and community involvement of our youth downtown was successful all summer. Individual decisions last night are reflective of few of our youth.  Let's celebrate our youth and address those unable to process the importance of their own young lives. Let's all do our part,” said, Chief Bryan Roach.

Anyone with information about criminal activity is urged to call Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at 317.262.8477 or (TIPS).  Citizens can also download the mobile P3tips app for Apple or Android phones to submit a mobile tip, or go to www.CrimeTips.org to submit a web tip. This release may be updated as more information becomes available. Information given via Crime Stoppers should be considered anonymous.
