South Brunswick Police Investigated Incident at Cambridge School Playground.

South Brunswick Police Investigated Bias Incident Report

South Brunswick Police have investigated a report of an incident that took place on Tuesday October 1, 2019 at 3:30pm at the Cambridge Elementary School playground. A juvenile male reported that he was at the playground and an adult male yelled at him to get out of here you Indian. A written post was placed on Facebook about the incident and police were alerted on Wednesday October 2, 2019 at 5pm by the juvenile and his family.

Detectives learned the Cambridge Elementary School was closed on Tuesday for the holiday, but their surveillance system captured the events on the playground at the time of the incident. Based on the surveillance, detectives were able to identify and locate the family that was playing at the park during the incident. The husband explained to detectives that he was there with his wife and three children. He denied making any statements to the juvenile. The wife indicated that she is also an immigrant and would never allow someone to speak to a child that way.

South Brunswick Police have advised the juvenile’s parents that the people in the park have been identified and spoken to.

Chief Raymond Hayducka said, “We take all cases involving potential bias seriously. In under 48 hours a team of officers and detectives pieced together video surveillance, interviewed a half dozen people, and identified the people in the park. I want to thank the South Brunswick School District for their assistance in the matter.”
