Duarte Crime Blotter for the Week of Oct. 20-26, 2019

The following is a synopsis of crimes reported for the week of October 20 – 26, 2019:        
 
October 20, 2019

  • Commercial Burglary:
A commercial burglary was reported at 1824 Evergreen Street (Unique Chic Events). Deputies responded to a burglary alarm call and found the front glass door shattered. Deputies cleared the location, but did not locate anyone. After further investigation, it appeared nothing was disturbed or taken from inside the location.
 
October 21, 2019
  • Grand Theft:
A grand theft was reported from Walmart located at 1600 Mountain Avenue. Approximately 100 used car batteries were stolen from an outdoor metal storage area. Video footage showed the suspects leaving in a dark colored Ford F-150. The loss was estimated at approximately $2,000. The investigation is ongoing.  
 
  • Commercial Burglary:
A commercial burglary was reported at 1700 Business Center Drive (Woodward Facility). Sometime between October 19th and the 21st, unknown person’s entered the business and stole a trailer containing a commercial power washer. The suspect was last seen on video leaving the location in an older model pick-up truck towing the trailer with the power washer. The loss was estimated at approximately $9,000.  The investigation is ongoing. 
 
  • Vandalism Arrest:
Deputies responded to Duarte Park (1344 Bloomdale Street) regarding a vandalism call where both the male and female bathroom doors had been spray painted with black/blue paint. As deputies approached the bathroom, they observed an adult female transient sitting by the bathrooms. During their investigation, the female was found to be in possession of black and blue spray paint cans, and had fresh black/blue paint on her hands. After further investigation, the suspect was arrested for vandalism.

October 24, 2019
  • Dangerous Weapon Arrest:
Deputies contacted an adult male working on a vehicle in the 3500 block of Fish Canyon Road. During their contact, the male was found to have an outstanding narcotics warrant and was placed under arrest. Incident to the arrest, the suspect was also found to be in possession of a switchblade knife and narcotic paraphernalia, and was additionally charged with the violations.           
 
October 25, 2019
  • Petty Theft:
A petty theft was reported at 1050 Huntington Drive (Target). During an inventory check, employees found a $250 Dyson vacuum and a $200 Schwinn bicycle missing. While reviewing video footage, they observed that on 10-17-19, an adult male had taken both items and exited the store through the rear fire exit. The investigation is ongoing.
 
  • Residential Burglary:
A residential burglary was reported in the 1300 block of Heather Lane. At approximately 3 a.m., an adult female was observed on surveillance video lifting the garage door slightly and crawling into the garage. Once inside, the female stole a backpack containing prescription glasses from an unlocked vehicle. The loss was estimated at approximately $900. 
 
  • Petty Theft Arrest:
While patrolling the rear alleyway behind Target (1050 Huntington Drive), deputies detained an adult male after observing him exiting the rear fire exit with a backpack and store security chasing him. After further investigation, the suspect was arrested for stealing approximately 20 DVD’s. The stolen property was found in the backpack and returned to the store.
 
  • Grand Theft Auto:
Between 7:30 p.m. on October 24 and 5:30 a.m. on the 25, person’s unknown stole a 2019 Chevy Cruz from the 2000 block of Baylor Street.  The vehicle was recovered on 10-25-19 by Montebello PD. No suspects are in custody.
