COVID-19 - Urgent Update for All Leonians

Fellow Leonians:

We have been advised today that a member of the Anna C. Scott School staff has tested positive for COVID-19. In order to ensure the health and safety of all Leonians, we are taking the following immediate actions:

  • All Anna C. Scott school students and staff should immediately begin a period of self-quarantine, extending through Saturday, March 27, 2020. This means that you should remain in your homes, and monitor yourself for any symptoms. If you are feeling unwell, you should contact your physician.
  • All Leonia Middle School Students who attend the SACC program, and all SACC staff who work at Anna C. Scott School, are also to immediately begin the same self-quarantine period, extending through March 27, 2020.
  • The Leonia School District buildings will continue to be closed through Friday, April 3, observing the distance learning protocols previously provided to all students. Spring break is already scheduled for April 6 through April 10; therefore, the current plan is to reopen Leonia School District Buildings on April 13, 2020 (subject to conditions at that time).
  • As a result of the latest developments, the distribution of computers from the Leonia School District will be delayed until Monday afternoon (March 16), or Tuesday morning (March 17). Details will be communicated directly from the Superintendent of Schools.
  • For families that participate in the Leonia School District lunch program, the pickup location has been changed to the front entrance of Leonia Middle School (pickup will NOT be available at Anna C. Scott school). For families that chose home delivery, the process will remain unchanged.
  • All Borough restaurants have been directed to offer takeout or delivery service only; no dine-in service is permitted at any Borough food establishment, until further notice.
  • All Borough parks are closed and off-limits to everyone, until further notice.
  • Borough Hall, the Leonia Recreation Center and the Leonia Public Library are closed to the public; staff are available via telephone and email. Please visit www.leonianj.gov, for an employee directory as well as available online services.
  • All non-essential Borough Board and Commission meetings are to be postponed.
  • All Borough residents are strongly encouraged to limit their interaction with non-family members not living with you, as well as others, and limit any unnecessary local and other travel.  This includes visits to other Borough residents, unless necessary. If you would like to check on your neighbors, please do this via telephone, email or text.
We recognize that these new requirements represent significant inconvenience; however, they are being taken out of an abundance of caution, in order to ensure the health, safety and security of all Leonians.

Our municipal government and Board of Education are working together to ensure that we are doing everything possible to proactively and responsibly address the current situation; we thank you for your anticipated full support and cooperation with the new requirements, and hope that all Leonians stay safe during this difficult period.
