Response to Questions Regarding the Alameda County Public Health Order

Over the last 24 hours, the Fremont Police Department has received several questions, calls and concerns regarding the Alameda County Health Officer’s Order (County Order) issued on March 16, 2020.

This situation is unprecedented and unlike anything we’ve experienced before.  The City of Fremont’s highest priority is the health and safety of our community.  Maintaining law and order is the Police Department’s focus and we are currently staffed to provide essential public safety services.

We are currently communicating with legal counsel and coordinating with the County of Alameda, the Alameda County Public Health Department and Federal Government to better understand and interpret their guidelines in the face of a variety of other state and federal regulations.  Per the County Order (Page 2, Section 3) businesses are allowed to maintain minimum basic operations. Above all, businesses are being asked to follow the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines for the safety of their workers as well as the public.

We ask that the public please not call the Fremont Police Dispatch Center to report potential County Order violations.  Instead, please email [email protected] so that our Dispatchers may continue to handle emergency calls.

The Alameda County Public Health Department has also created a list of Frequently Asked Questions about the County Order that may be viewed here: http://www.acphd.org/media/559828/faqs-order-shelter-in-place-20200316.pdf.
