Officer Involved Shooting Update
The City of San Leandro remains committed to conducting a thorough investigation into the shooting death of Steven Taylor by the San Leandro Police Department. As part of that process, it is our intention to provide updates to the community and those impacted by this officer involved shooting in a timely manner.
On April 20, 2020, the Alameda County Coroner’s Bureau performed an autopsy on Mr. Taylor and the preliminary cause of death was determined to be a single gunshot wound to his chest. Additionally, the Coroner’s Bureau confirmed that Taylor did not sustain any additional gunshot wounds to his head or back.
The San Leandro Police Department will continue to update the community regarding this incident as the investigation allows. In the coming days, we will be releasing a video recorded statement from Chief of Police Jeffrey Tudor, along with body worn camera footage.
