Alameda County Superior Court Judge Thomas Reardon releases serial rape suspect from custody
Alameda County Superior Court Judge Thomas Reardon releases serial rape suspect from custody...
In the late 1990’s the Union City and Livermore Police Departments investigated multiple victims being kidnapped and raped. These horrific cases occurred in both Livermore and Union City, California. The cases were solved in late 2019, when the combined efforts of the Livermore and Union City Police Departments lead to the arrest of suspect Gregory Vien.
Union City PD was shocked to learn that Alameda County Superior Court Judge Thomas Reardon recently released suspect Gregory Vien from jail over alleged Coronavirus exposure concerns. In this case, Judge Thomas Reardon reduced the bail for suspect Gregory Vien from $2.5 million dollars to $0, effectively releasing the suspected serial rapist back into the community.
The charges against the suspect have not been dropped and suspect Gregory Vien will still have to face trial at some point. Currently, the suspect is out of custody and wearing an ankle bracelet while awaiting his next court date.
The Union City Police Department wanted to share this information with our community and let you know that we, like Livermore PD and the District Attorney's Office, do not support this decision and feel it places our communities at greater risk.
