Los Angeles County Homicide Detectives are continuing their investigation into a Deputy-Involved-Shooting that occurred on the 1700 block of West Avenue K, Lancaster on Friday, May 29, 2020 at approximately 7:48PM.

Detectives have learned that Deputies assigned to Lancaster Station were on patrol in the area of East Avenue K, East of 20th Street West in the City of Lancaster.

Deputies observed a suspect, male white adult walking Eastbound on the sidewalk. As Deputies contacted the suspect they saw he had a firearm in his hand. An altercation with the suspect ensued and the suspect was taken to the ground, during which time a Deputy-Involved-Shooting occurred.

No Deputies were injured.

The suspect was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
 
A replica firearm was recovered at the scene.

The investigation is ongoing and there is no further information at this time.

NARRATIVE:
Los Angeles County Sheriff's Homicide detectives are responding to a Deputy involved shooting in Lancaster.  The incident occurred on Friday, May 29, 2020, at approximately 7:48 p.m., 1700 Blk West Avenue K, Lancaster.
                 
The suspect was transported to a local hospital.

Whenever a deputy-involved shooting occurs involving Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputies, and a person is struck by gunfire, multiple independent investigations immediately begin at the scene.  These include separate investigations by the Sheriff's Homicide Bureau and Internal Affairs Bureau.  The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department immediately notifies the Office of the Inspector General who sends a representative to the incident scene and provides independent oversight throughout the investigative process.  Once concluded, a preliminary review is conducted by the Critical Incident Review Panel to determine whether any immediate actions are warranted.  Every aspect of the shooting is reviewed by the Sheriff's Executive Force Review Committee.

The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, Justice System Integrity Division, conducts a legal analysis to determine whether any criminal charges will be filed and if the shooting was legally justified.
