Seward Positive Tests & Targeted Testing Available at SCHC
Yesterday, a local Seward resident self-disclosed their positive test results on Facebook. In addition to this positive result, a second Seward resident also tested positive on the same day. The two cases are considered close contacts. Earlier this week, there was a third positive test, bringing the total active cases to three, and the cumulative total to seven.
The Public Health Department defines two or more cases as an “outbreak”. While this term may sound frightening, Seward residents can rest assured that response measures are in place.
Many local Seward businesses in the downtown area have taken proactive steps to ensure the health and safety of their employees and customers by closing temporarily. Those businesses include:
Seward Alehouse Seward Brewing Company
The Cookery The Lone Chicharron
The Tufted Puffin Yukon Bar
Tony’s Bar
In response to this event, the Seward Community Health Center, located at 417 First Avenue, will be providing targeted COVID-19 testing on June 27 from 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. and from June 29 – July 2 from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. and from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. Testing is recommended for anyone who visited the following businesses during these times:
- The Seward Alehouse in Seward (215 4th Ave)
- Sunday, June 21 or Tuesday, June 23 from noon to 7 p.m.
- Monday, June 22 from 9 p.m. to 12:30 a.m.
- The Yukon Bar in Seward (201 4th Ave.)
- Tuesday, June 23. All hours.
The best and most proven way to avoid getting sick is to social distance, avoid group gatherings outside your “bubble,” use a face mask, wash your hands, stay home when ill, and get tested if you experience signs and symptoms. Additional information can be found at www.covid19.alaska.gov.
