Two in jail after multiple car thefts and high-speed chases end in irrigation ditch.
MOSES LAKE, Wash. (29JUN2020): A Moses Lake woman and a 16-year-old juvenile male are in custody after two car thefts and dangerous high-speed chases early Sunday morning between George and Moses Lake. The woman has been identified as Tomie Gonzalez, 21, of Moses Lake.
At 4:00am Sunday morning deputies were called to the city of George for a vehicle theft. The two suspects had been seen by a witness pushing another vehicle just prior to this second vehicle being stolen. Deputies located the vehicle that was being pushed and learned it had been reported as stolen out of Moses Lake just a few hours prior.
By 4:30am, Ephrata Police Department located the second stolen vehicle and suspects driving south on Dodson Road. When attempting to pull the vehicle over, the suspects sped away with speeds reaching over 100mph. As the suspects then drove into oncoming traffic, the pursuit was halted.
Grant County Sheriff Deputies were able to locate the vehicle as it turned east bound on road 5 NW near Moses Lake. Speeds again reached over 100mph as the deputies pursued them. The suspects attempted to elude by driving through a field off 5 NW and Division Road N where they ended up in a large irrigation ditch, submerging the vehicle. The suspects were taken out of the ditch and into custody. They were not injured.
Both suspects were booked on numerous charges including two counts of theft of a motor vehicle, two counts of possession of a stolen motor vehicle, as well as multiple attempts to elude a pursuing police vehicle.
