Paulding County Sheriff has an important message for you! Missing child found as a result of NIXLE alert in Iowa.

This is a perfect example of why you should tell your friends and family about Nixle. The more people that we have receiving our ALERTS and messages, the more effective we will be in situations like the one below.

Below is the press release that was put out by Sioux County Sheriff’s Office.

On Wednesday, September 9 at 3:13 pm, the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office received a call of a missing five year old girl in Hull, IA. The child’s mother reported that she had not returned home from school at the time she normally does.

Approximately 30 minutes later, Trevor Schelling, age 18, from Sioux Center, IA called 911 and reported that he might have found the missing girl. Sioux County deputies arrived at his location in Hull a short time later and confirmed the missing child had been located. The child was found about one half mile away from her residence; she apparently got mixed up in her directions.

Schelling advised the communications center he was made aware of the missing child from a “Nixle Report,” which is a new program the sheriff’s office is using to broadcast in real time incidents they want the public’s help with and/or the public should be aware of.

Sheriff Altena said, “Missing children are always a very scary situation for everybody. It’s great to have more tools, like Nixle, that can be used in situations like this. The program worked exactly as it was supposed to – the Nixle report of a missing child was put out; a citizen received it on a cell phone text message, saw the child and called 911. We’re very thankful for people like Mr. Schelling.”

The sheriff’s office was assisted by the Hull Fire Department with the search.
