Bobcat Fire Update - September 11, 12:15 p.m. Duarte Remains in an Evacuation Warning

Size: Approximately 26,368 acres
Percent Contained: 6%
Resources Assigned: 540 personnel
CLOSURES: Road Closures: • San Gabriel Canyon Rd (HWY 39) is closed at Old San Gabriel Canyon Rd. • SR 2 (Angeles Crest Hwy.) is closed from 10.6 miles east of La CanadaFlintridge to Islip Saddle.

Fire crews will continue to focus on increasing containment lines along the south end of the fire near the Phase 1 and Phase 2 Evacuation Areas. Throughout the day, heavy fire activity will continue to be seen on the south end. L.A. County will be providing 2 Firehawk (Blackhawk) Helicopters and Supercoopers to combat the fire once the inversion layer is lifted. Hand crews will be on scene fighting the southern portion using direct and indirect methods of attack. Heavy dozer lines have been created on the southern portion (near Duarte homes) to help slow and or stop fire progression. Fire is moving at a slow pace and is approximately 2 miles or more away from Duarte structures. As long as weather conditions remain the same, Fire Forecasters are predicting it to take days for the fire to reach critical areas of Duarte homes. Although the fire may be slow moving right now, Duarte remains in an evacuation warning. Changes in wind or weather could alter the situation at a moment's notice. Residents in Phase 1 and Phase 2 of the evacuation area should remain prepared and ready. Please visit the City website for a map of the area and information regarding emergency preparation: https://www.accessduarte.com/news/default.htm

More fire activity is expected in the north side of the fire where crews will work to contain it at Angeles Crest Highway 2. The east southern portion of the fire is entering into a burn scar from the Ranch2 Fire creating less intense fire behavior for firefighters. The fire on the eastern portion has reached Highway 39 and fire crews are working off the highway to create containment lines. Heavy fuels in the west end of the fire are also expected to push the fire into an old burn scar. Steep terrain and dry fuels, some of which haven’t burned in the last 60 years, will create challenges for crews. Fire crews will also continue working on opening dozer lines and utilizing the road system to slow progression of the fire. L.A. County Fire will continue to conduct structure protection planning and provide additional resources for the foothill communities.

L.A. County Fire, will be posting a message board at Royal Oaks park to provide residents with updates on the fire.
