**UPD** LASD Homicide Responding to a Deputy Involved Shooting, at the Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, 1000 W. Carson St, Torrance
Sheriff’s Homicide Investigators continue their investigation into the circumstances surrounding a deputy involved shooting at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center in Torrance.
Deputies from South Los Angeles Station, who were working a security detail at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center were alerted to an incident within the hospital involving a patient. That patient was discovered in a room destroying medical equipment before attempting to smash a window with a metal medical device.
A deputy assisted medical staff by moving patients. The patient in question, a Hispanic man between 30 and 40 years of age, turned his attention on the deputy. At that point, a deputy involved shooting occurred. The patient was struck by gunfire and was immediately treated on scene. He is currently in critical condition.
No deputies, patients, or medical staff were injured as a result of the incident.
The investigation is ongoing and there is no additional information available at this time.

NARRATIVE:
Los Angeles County Sheriff's Homicide investigators are responding to a deputy-involved shooting. The incident occurred Tuesday, October 6, 2020, at approximately 11:15 p.m., at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center located at 1000 W. Carson Street, Torrance.
The suspect is being treated for a gunshot wound.
No deputies reported injuries.
The investigation is ongoing and there is no additional information available at this time.
Whenever a deputy-involved shooting occurs involving Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputies, and a person is struck by gunfire, multiple independent investigations immediately begin at the scene. These include separate investigations by the Sheriff's Homicide Bureau and Internal Affairs Bureau. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department immediately notifies the Office of the Inspector General who sends a representative to the incident scene and provides independent oversight throughout the investigative process. Once concluded, a preliminary review is conducted by the Critical Incident Review Panel to determine whether any immediate actions are warranted. Every aspect of the shooting is reviewed by the Sheriff's Executive Force Review Committee. Input from Constitutional Policing Advisors is provided during the process. The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, Justice System Integrity Division, conducts a legal analysis to determine whether any criminal charges will be filed and if the shooting was legally justified.
