Homicide Detectives are investigating a fatal shooting in the unincorporated area of Montclair

INCIDENT: Murder Investigation
LOCATION: 11200 block of Chico Avenue, Montclair
VICTIM: Kevin Castro, 18 years old, resident of Montclair
SUSPECT: Unknown Hispanic male
SUMMARY:
On Saturday, October 17, 2020 at 6:04 p.m. deputies from the Chino Hills Station responded to the unincorporated area of Montclair for a report of a shooting. Deputies arrived and located the victim, Kevin Castro, suffering from a gunshot wound and immediately provided lifesaving measures. Castro was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased at 6:54 p.m.
Detectives with the Homicide Detail responded to conduct the investigation.
Detectives learned that Castro and some friends were outside of a residence and became involved in an argument with subjects at a nearby home. The argument led to a physical fight and Castro was shot during the fight. The unidentified shooter and several other subjects fled the scene prior to deputies’ arrival.
The reason for the fight and subsequent shooting remains under investigation.
