SUMMARY:
On December 25, 2020 at approximately 9:37 p.m., deputies from the Colorado River Station/Needles Police Department responded to a report of a child locked in a running vehicle in the area of Vidal Junction. Deputies responded and located the red Chevrolet Silverado at the Chevron gas station at 3550 US State Highway 95 and observed two small children, a three-year-old and six-year-old, sleeping in the rear seat of the vehicle. The reporting party and registered vehicle owner, later identified as Amanda Konkel, was found to have an active felony warrant for burglary in Colorado. Konkel was also found to be in possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. The methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia were located in an area of the vehicle that was accessible to the children. The two children were safely removed from the locked vehicle and transported by deputies to the Needles station where they were released to a family member.

Konkel was arrested and booked into the Needles Jail for cruelty to child/child endangerment, possession of an illegal controlled substance and the felony warrant. Konkel remains in custody for her charges and no bail warrant, pending court appearance and extradition.
