INCIDENT: Shooting

LOCATION: 17000 block of Orange Street, Hesperia

SUSPECT: Erick Contreras, 39-year-old male, resident of Hesperia


SUMMARY:

On Monday, January 18, 2020, at approximately 3:36 a.m., deputies responded to a residence located in the 17000 block of Orange Street in reference to a shooting. The suspect, Erick Contreras, attempted to force entry to the residence at the location and gunfire was exchanged between the resident and Contreras. No one was injured and Contreras fled in his vehicle. Deputies located Contreras’ vehicle was at a residence in the 8000 block of Avocado Street. Hesperia Station deputies, with the help of Specialized Enforcement Detail (SED) attempted to get Contreras to exit the residence through public address announcements. When those attempts were unsuccessful, SED forced entry into the residence and Contreras was not located.

Through investigation, deputies learned of Contreras’ possible whereabouts. SED responded to a residence in the 18000 block of Albany Street where Contreras was located and was taken into custody. The motive for the shooting is currently unknown. Contreras was booked in at High Desert Detention Center for PC 664/187(a)- attempt murder, PC 246- shooting in an inhabited dwelling, PC 664/212.5(a)- attempt robbery, PC 30305(a)(1) felon in possession of ammunition and PC29800(a)(1)- felon in possession of a firearm.
