CRIME/CHARGES:
NARRATIVE:
On Wednesday, July 7, 2021; Officers from Pomona Police Department's, Major Crimes Task Force (MCTF) were in the area of the intersection at Reservoir St. and Grand Av. when they noticed a stop sign violation of a vehicle on the roadway. As the vehicle continued traveling eastbound past the intersection, officers noticed the vehicle was traveling unusually close to the cars parked along the south curb line. Officers initiated a traffic stop based on their observations and the vehicle immediately failed to yield. The suspect driver momentarily drove the vehicle onto the raised sidewalk as he turned to travel southbound on Reservoir St. The suspect driver led Officers in a vehicle pursuit while the front right passenger was seen discarding a loaded firearm from the vehicle. At one point the driver stopped the suspect vehicle to allow the passenger to foot bail. Officers continued to chase both the passenger who ran from police, and the suspect driver. Both suspects were captured and taken into-custody. The driver was identified as Salvador Ortiz and the passenger was identified as, Christian Ayala. Suspect Ortiz was arrested and charged with felony evading. Suspect Ayala was found to be on parole for criminal threats against police, and a documented gang member. Suspect Ayala was arrested for the listed charges. Both suspects were booked at the Pomona city jail.

The team is comprised of two supervisors, four officers and two additional officers from the California Highway Patrol – Baldwin Park Office.
