Advisory

Columbia Beach in Knowlton

In response to increasing numbers of residents from out of state using Columbia Beach late at night and leaving Knowlton's Columbia Beach littered, a number of changes have been made:

  1. Parking is now by permit only at Columbia Beach. Permits are free to Knowlton residents and can be obtained at the Knowlton Municipal Building.
  2. The gate to access the boat launch at Columbia Beach is now locked.  Keys are free to Knowlton residents; one key per household.  Residents who already have a key to Delaware Beach (located off Ferry Lane near the elementary school) can use the same key to access the Columbia Beach boat launch.  The same key works for both locks. Keys are obtained at the Knowlton Municipal Building.
  3. Due to liability, residents using Columbia Beach to launch watercraft will need to register their boat with the Township, sign a waiver, and obtain a permit.  Permits are $20. Permits are obtained at the Knowlton Municipal Building. (If the boat requires licensing from the State, please bring a copy of that license with you.)
Columbia Beach is located in the village of Delaware. Residents are asked to pick up after themselves whenever using the beach for recreation. Please note, off-road vehicles, loud music, and open fires are prohibited, and the beach closes at 9:00 p.m., except for those actively engaged in fishing.

Please call the Municipal Clerk with any questions at (908) 496-4816 ext. 6.  The Knowlton Municipal Building is located at 628 Route 94, Columbia, NJ. Permits and keys can be obtained there during normal business hours, which are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.
