IMPD Detectives Make Arrest in Eastside Homicide

INDIANAPOLIS – On Monday, July 26, 2021, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) Homicide Detectives identified and arrested a suspect allegedly involved in the death of 40-year old David Woodard.
 
On Saturday, July 24, 2021, just after 1:30 a.m., IMPD East District officers were dispatched to the 2700 block of E. Michigan Street on a report of a person shot. When officers arrived, they located three adult males who sustained injuries consistent with a gunshot wound(s). IEMS arrived and pronounced one individual deceased on the scene. The other two males were transported in serious condition to area hospitals. 
 
IMPD Homicide Detectives responded to the scene to begin the investigation. The Indianapolis-Marion County Forensic Services Agency responded to assist in identifying and collecting potential forensic evidence. The Marion County Coroner’s Office will assist and determine the exact manner and cause of death. 
 
IMPD Homicide Detectives continued their investigation and identified the alleged suspect. On Monday, July 26, 2021, homicide detectives announced the arrest of 38-year old Marcus Washington for his alleged involvement in the death of David Woodard. Washington was arrested and charged with murder.
 
The Marion County Prosecutors Office will review this case and make a final charging decision.
