On 08-01-2021 at approximately 11:50 p.m. officers from the Escondido Police Department were flagged down in the area of the Sr. Taquito restaurant, 1620 E. Valley Pkwy, reference a possible shooting that had just occurred. 
 
According to witnesses and evidence at the scene, it appears there was a verbal altercation between several male subjects. A fight ensued, where one male produced a handgun and fired several shots, hitting at least one person, identified as Gulfrano Resendiz Ledesma, a 28-year-old Escondido resident. 
 
The shooter then attempted to walk away from the area but was struck by a vehicle in the parking lot.  That vehicle then fled the area eastbound through the parking lot. 
 
Ledesma was self-transported to the hospital where he later died from his injuries.
 
The shooting suspect, who had been hit by the car, was transported to Palomar Hospital with serious injuries.  The identity of the shooter is being withheld pending further investigation.
