UPDATE: A SUSPECT IS IN CUSTODY IN TAFT SHOOTING

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

 ** The following update is based on an active and ongoing investigation. The OSBI's initial understanding of the facts and the circumstances may evolve over the course of the investigation as witnesses are interviewed and evidence is collected and analyzed.

TAFT, Oklahoma (May 29, 2022, 5:15 p.m.) – A suspect in the deadly Taft shooting is in custody. An arrest warrant was issued for 26-year-old Skyler Buckner, who turned himself in at the Muskogee County Sheriff’s Office at 4:05 p.m., today.

The eight that were injured in the shooting were all transferred to the hospital in Muskogee and three patients were then transferred to a hospital in Tulsa for treatment. The deceased is a 39-year-old Black female. The other seven injured range in age from 9 to 56. All are said to have non-life-threatening injuries.

CLARIFICATION: One juvenile was injured in the shooting. An earlier press release stated two juveniles were injured.

TAFT, Oklahoma (May 29, 2022 9:44 a.m.)Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI) agents are investigating after eight people are shot at an outdoor festival in Taft, Oklahoma. At this time there is one deceased and 7 injured including 2 juveniles.

The shooting occurred at an annual Memorial Day event with 1,500 people in attendance. The festival took place at the Old City Square. Witnesses say just after midnight there was an argument and then gunfire erupted. The Muskogee County Sheriff’s Office was in attendance at the event and immediately rendered aid to the victims.
