Remington Police Conduct Traffic Safety Checkpoints
The Remington Police Department conducted two license/registration checkpoints on Friday September 18, 2009.
The first checkpoint was set up in the 300 Block of West Main St. between the hours of 8:45 p.m. and 10:00 p.m.
The second checkpoint was set up at the intersection of James Madison Street and Main Street between the hours of 10:15 p.m. and 1:00 a.m. Saturday morning.
The primary purpose of the checkpoint was to promote overall traffic safety in the community, by preventing intoxicated drivers, unlicensed motorists, and unregistered vehicles from operating on public roadways. The checkpoint allowed police officers to check the driver's license and vehicle registration status of individuals passing through the checkpoint.
There was one arrest for Driving While Intoxicated. A total of 9 summonses were issued. Out of those issued, two were unlicensed drivers and three were suspended.
This checkpoint was conducted in support of the "Drunk Driving over the limit under Arrest" campaign.
Traffic checkpoints are a constant in the Remington Police Department's enforcement strategy. The traveling public may expect more checkpoints.
