MODESTO TAKES FIRST PLACE PRIZE
Modesto, CA – The city of Modesto ranked first in the State of California for this summer’s National Night Out festivities.
The Modesto Police Department was notified today of achieving first place in the State of California and fourth place in the entire country (cities 100,000-299,000 in population) for their coordination of the August 4th city-wide festivities. It is estimated that over 251 neighborhoods participated in parties within the Modesto city limits.
Shortly after the August event personnel with the Modesto Police Department submitted a report to the National Association of Town Watch (NATW). The agency reviewed the submissions and made the award announcements today. A plaque will be presented at a later date.
In response to the award Modesto’s Interim Chief of Police Mike Harden said, “Having participating in the National Night Out Festivities, it is clear that the citizens of Modesto have a sense of pride and ownership of their neighborhoods. Achieving fist place in the state is a great honor and I look forward to working together with the community to continue our fight on crime”.
Several significant donors provided money and services to make the event possible including Luxury Limousine, Los Amigos Tires, DOT Foods, Target, and the Modesto Irrigation District. Many smaller donors also contributed to ensure this event was a success.
National Night Out is designed to:
• Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness
• Generate support for local anti-crime programs such as Neighborhood Watch
• Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships
• Send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back
