LASD Detectives Seeking Additional Victims in Child Sexual Abuse Case Involving Palmdale Resident

Earlier today, a joint press conference was held with representatives from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, the Los Angeles Police Department, and the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office to share details of the case and encourage potential victims to come forward.

Detectives with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Special Victims Bureau (SVB) are continuing their investigation into the alleged sexual abuse of a male juvenile by 43-year-old Mario Edgardo Garcia-Aquino, a resident of Palmdale.

In February 2024, Garcia-Aquino allegedly befriended a family from Sylmar, who allowed their juvenile son to stay at his residence in the 41100 block of 27th Street West in Palmdale. Following the stay, the family filed a report with the Palmdale Sheriff’s Station, alleging their child had been sexually abused. The incident reportedly occurred while the juvenile was residing at Garcia-Aquino’s home.

The case was assigned to the LASD Special Victims Bureau – North Team, which specializes in the investigation of child physical and sexual abuse, as well as adult felony sexual assault cases.
During the course of the investigation, detectives learned that Garcia-Aquino had previously been investigated by the Los Angeles Police Department’s Foothill Division in 2022 for a separate and unrelated child sexual abuse case.

In collaboration with the Los Angeles Police Department, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Special Victims Bureau detectives presented the case for review. On April 2, 2025, the District Attorney’s Office filed one felony count of Assault with Intent to Commit a Felony, in violation of Penal Code 220(a)(1), under court case #25AVCF0032.

Garcia-Aquino was arrested on April 2, 2025, by LAPD’s Foothill Division under booking number 6988034. He is currently in custody at the Twin Towers Correctional Facility, with bail set at $100,000, and is awaiting his next scheduled court appearance.

At the time of the allegations, Garcia-Aquino was a youth travel soccer coach with the Hurricane Valley Boys Soccer Club in Sylmar, working with multiple age divisions. No prior criminal history had been reported at that time.

Due to the nature of the charges and Garcia-Aquino’s access to minors through youth sports, LASD SVB detectives believe there may be additional victims who have not yet come forward.

Anyone with information related to this case, or who believes they may have been a victim, is strongly urged to contact the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Special Victims Bureau at (877) 710-5273, or visit any local sheriff’s station.
