INCIDENT TYPE: Homicide Investigation Update

DETAILS: On May 6, 2026, the Amarillo Police Department Homicide Unit presented this case to the Randall County Grand Jury for review.
The case stems from the March 22, 2026, domestic violence shooting investigation that occurred in the 2900 block of South Dallas. During the investigation, officers determined multiple individuals sustained injuries during the incident and two individuals were fatally shot outside the residence.
Following presentation of evidence and testimony, the Randall County Grand Jury returned indictments against 40-year-old James Pena on the following charges:
• Capital Murder Involving Multiple Persons
• Two counts of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon Causing Serious Bodily Injury Family Member
• One count of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon
James Pena remains in custody at the Randall County Jail.
This investigation remains active and ongoing.
