#LASD Solo Vehicle Fatal Traffic Collision, Sierra Hwy at Rancho Vista Blvd., Palmdale

Palmdale Sheriff’s Station Traffic Investigators are investigating the circumstances of a solo vehicle fatal traffic collision that occurred on Sunday, June 10, 2018, at approximately 6:50 a.m., on the northbound lanes of Sierra Highway at Rancho Vista Boulevard, Palmdale.

Preliminary information gathered at the scene indicates the male driver of a 2006 silver, Ford Focus, appeared to be travelling northbound on Sierra Highway.  Evidence at the scene of the collision indicate the vehicle drifted onto the sidewalk and bike path for an unknown reason.  After striking a wood fence pole, in the bike path, the vehicle continued on until it collided with a “Metrolink” control house where it came to rest and caught fire.  The vehicle became engulfed by flames, trapping the driver inside.

The driver succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The investigation is on-going and there is no further information available.

Investigators are encouraging anyone who may have witnessed this collision or have any information to contact the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Palmdale Station’s Traffic Detail at 661-272-2400.  If you prefer to provide information anonymously, you may call "Crime Stoppers" by dialing (800) 222-TIPS (8477), use your smartphone by downloading the "P3 MOBILE APP" on Google Play or the App Store, or by using the website http://lacrimestoppers.org.
