KCSO Deputy shot at in patrol vehicle near Rosamond
On August 29, 2018 at 10:22 pm, The Kern County Sheriff’s Office received a call from a male subject stating his wife was possibly shot. The caller and victim were calling from a residence in the 25700 block of Dinkey Avenue, which is near the end of 255th Street West in Rosamond California. Deputies from Rosamond, Tehachapi, and Mojave responded to the call.
A Sheriff’s Office sergeant was the first officer to arrive. When he arrived, an unknown suspect fired an unknown number of rounds at his marked patrol utility vehicle. The rounds struck the vehicle in the area of the front passenger door. The Sergeant was not injured and was able to move to a safe location.
Due to the nature of the incident, a SWAT call out was initiated. The Sheriff’s Office helicopter responded to the scene and located the suspect standing outside his residence in the 25900 block of Sue Avenue. The suspect was holding a long gun when he was located by the Sheriff’s Office helicopter.
Once the suspect’s location was determined, deputies were able to surround the residence and contain the suspect. The Sheriff’s Office Communications Center was able to talk to the suspect and convince him to go outside. Once he walked outside deputies were able to take him into custody without any further incident.
The suspect was identified as Harvey Jensen (DOB 11-29-52). Harvey was taken into custody and booked into CRF.
The original victim in the call was not injured, but was shot at an unknown number of times. The Sheriff’s sergeant was not injured during this incident.
