Local student detained after bringing handgun to school 
On Thursday, October 18th at approximately 11:00am, Lancaster Sheriff’s Station received a call from administrators at Gifford C. Cole Middle School with a report that a student may have brought a weapon to the school.
The school resource officer assigned to Cole Middle School immediately responded to the campus and conducted a search of the backpack of the student in question. A handgun was found inside the backpack. The student, a 12 year old, male was detained for possession of a firearm on school grounds. No students were harmed during the incident and the investigation is currently ongoing.
We thank the staff and faculty at Cole Middle School for their swift response and action. Lancaster Sheriff’s Station continues to work hand in hand with parents, students and faculty to ensure our schools are a safe place for all of our students to learn.
