Alligator Discoverd in Mastic Beach Yard

Suffolk County Police responded to a home on Moriches Drive in Mastic Beach at 10:11a.m. after a resident spotted an alligator in his yard.

The 2 ½ foot alligator was walking along the resident’s fence line by a flowerbed. The resident put the alligator in a plastic storage bin and when a sergeant arrived he put tape around the gator's mouth. Officers attempted to transport the approximately 3 to 4 pound alligator to a reptile store in Shirley but it was closed. The gator was then held at Petland Discounts in Shirley until officers found a licensed store, Jungle Bob’s Reptile World in Centereach to take in the alligator. The alligator appeared to be in good health.
