SCPD Community Police Officers met with Resurrection Church Parish of Farmingville

Hello all...."Let's Talk" Event:  On Sunday, June 14th  SCPD Community Police Officers, along with 6th Pct. Inspector William Murphy, met with Father Malcolm Burns and approximately 100 of his parishoners at the Church of the Resurrection located at 50 Granny Rd. Farmingville.  Community Liaison Officers(assigned to the Community Response Bureau of SCPD Headquarters) and 6th Pct. COPE Officers introduced themselves and explained ways in which we, as Community Officers, serve the various communities throughout our respective Precincts and Suffolk County as a whole.  Our 5th Pct. CLO, PO Lauren Ventura, served as the event's Spanish/English translator.

Topics addressed by SCPD were, in part, 1)What to do when stopped by the Police  2)What to do if you are a victim of a crime, 3)The importance of reporting crimes to the Police and how to report, 4)Language Access Services-Language Line translation assistance, 5) How to file a complaint against a Police Officer/Supervisor (also, how to officially compliment an Officer) and 6)Suffolk County Police Programs.

Question and Answer period:

1)A Parishoner asked a question about the ramifications of being involved in a Motor Vehicle Collision while Unlicensed.

2)A different Parishoner discussed her experience with being pulled over during a traffic stop and her inability to understand the Officer.  It was suggested to the Parishoners that they advise Officers when there is a language barrier and that translation services are available and shall be  provided by SCPD personnel.

3)Another Parishoner asked about the validity of his Mexican Driver License and if license reciprocity exists between Mexico and the U.S.A.

*Similar events will be held at this church in the upcoming months.  Other related Outreach events will be conducted at different locations and will be posted, via NIXLE and Emails, in the future.  Assuredly,SCPD will continue to reach out to the various groups and Parishes throughout Suffolk County.

Thank you for your attention.
